GEE MOM I WANNA GO
CHORUS
Oh I don't want no more of Scout camp life.
Gee Mom I wanna go, but they won't let me go
Gee Mom I wanna go home.
The counselors here at Leslie they say are mighty fine
But mine is big and ugly and looks like Frankenstein.
CHORUS
The food here at Leslie they say is mighty fine,
But a meatball rolled off the table and killed a friend of mine.
The water here at Leslie they say is pretty clean
But this lake smells like a cesspool and looks like a latrine
The candy here at Leslie they say is mighty sweet
Mine just tastes like medicine and smells like Jimmy's feet.
The PD here at Leslie, they say is a cool guy.
But all he does is yell and every word's a lie. CHORUS

GHOST CHICKENS IN THE SKY
(tune: Ghost Riders in the Sky)
A Chicken Farmer went out one dark and dreary day.
He rested by the chicken coop as he went along his way.
When all at once a rotten egg hit him in the eye.
It was the sight he dreaded - Ghost chickens in the sky.
Chorus
Bok, bok, bok, bok
Bok, bok, bok, bok
Ghost chickens in the sky
The farmer had raised chickens since he was 24
Working for the Colonel for thirty years or more
Killing all those chickens and sending them to fry
Now they all sought revenge! - Ghost chickens in the sky.
Their feet were black and shiny, their eyes were burning red.
They had no meat of feathers, these chickens were all dead.
They picked up the poor farmer and he died by the claw.
They cooked him extra crispy and ate him with coleslaw!

Shally-wally, shally-wally,
Shally-wally, shally-wally,
Oompah, oompah, oompah
GWH
This is one of the most famous, and well-known of all Scout songs in the UK and abroad.
Different stories place the origins of this song in India, South Africa and the first
World Scout Jamboree respectively. The latter of these origins suggests that the song was
composed of nonsense words that Scouts from many different countries could easily learn
without the problems of trying to tackle a foreign language.
(known by Peter Henry as "HEY LA SHELA")
Shally wally shally wally shally wally shally wally
Oompa oompa oompa
Shen can goolie goolie goolie goolie wah.
Shen can goo, shen can goo.
Shen can goolie goolie goolie goolie wah.
Shen can goo, shen can goo.
Hey la, hey la shela. Hey la shela shela voo.
Hey la, hey la shela. Hey la shela shela voo.
Oompa, oompa, oompa.
[Peter Henry] All right, I'll say it again. This, too, can be a round although slightly
different. One half of the group sings the oompas while the other half sings the shen
cans. When the second group has sung from Shally wally through to the oompas at the end,
then it is time to switch. Have a good leader for this little ditty.

GLORY GLORY HOW PECULIAR
(tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic)
Glory, glory how peculiar
Glory, glory how peculiar.
Glory, glory how peculiar
(First line from last verse.)
As one slippery seal slipped up the slide,
the other slippery seal slid down.
As one slippery seal slipped up the slide,
the other slippery seal slid down.
As one slippery seal slid up the slide,
the other slippery seal slid down.
As one slippery seal slid up the slide,
the other slippery seal slid down.
CHORUS
As one eager eagle eased up the eaves, the other eager eagle eased down...
CHORUS
As one black bug bled blue, the other blue bug bled black...
CHORUS
As one black bear backed up the bank, the other blue bear backed down..
CHORUS
As one pink porpoise popped up the pole, the other pink porpoise popped down...
CHORUS
As one perky platypus peeked at the people, the other perky platypus peeked too...
CHORUS
GWH There is also a version of this song in which
the repeated line of the chorus goes "They were only playing leapfrog".

GOING ON A BEAR HUNT
Goin' on a bear hunt REPEAT
Okay REPEAT
Let's go! REPEAT
Coming to a river REPEAT
Can't go around it. REPEAT
Can't go over it. REPEAT
Gotta swim through it. REPEAT
(Do swimming strokes making splashing noises.) Backstroke!
Whew! REPEAT
Coming to a swamp. REPEAT Can't go under it. REPEAT
Can't go over it. REPEAT Gotta go through it. REPEAT
(Exaggerated walking motions, making sucking noises) Oh, a snake.
Coming to a wheat field...
(Swishing sounds)
Coming to a forest...
(Climbing motions)
Coming to a cave REPEAT
Bears live in caves. REPEAT
I'm on a bear hunt REPEAT
Let's go in. REPEAT
Oh, it's dark in here. REPEAT
It's fuzzy in here. REPEAT
Something's sharp in here. REPEAT
Something's growling in here. REPEAT
It's a bear! REPEAT
Run! REPEAT
With this song, the group is slapping their hands onto their thighs while pretending to
walk. And as the group runs from the cave, the leader proceeds to take them back through
everything they marched through to get to the cave. All the motions are as fast as
possible.
GWH There are as many different variations of Going on a Bear Hunt as there are bears
in the USA.

GRANDMA'S IN THE CELLAR
Grandma's in the cellar, Lordy can't you smell her?
Cooking biscuits on that dog-gone dirty stove.
In her eye there is a matter that keeps dripping in the batter
And she whistles as it (Sniff) runs down her nose.
Down her nose. (Down her nose) Down her nose. (Down her nose)
In her eye there is a matter that keeps dripping in the batter. And she whistles as
it (Sniff) runs down her nose.
Ken Hughes, you were always asking about this song. Well, here it is. Make up your own
tune, I could never sing the exact same one anyway.

THE GRAND OLD DUKE OF YORK
(Oh) The grand old Duke of York, he had ten thousand men.
He marched them up the hill and he marched them down again.
And when they were up, they were up.
And when they were down, they were down.
And when they were only halfway up, they were neither up nor down.
This is an active song that involves standing up and sitting down. While the duke's men
are up, the group is standing up. While the duke's men are down, the group sits down. And
then people are crouching when they duke's men are half way up.
GWH
It is also good to try the actions the opposite way round so that when you sing
"up" everyone sits down, and when you sing "down" everyone stands up.
"Half way up" is the same action.

GREEN GROW THE RUSHES HO
I'll sing you one ho, green grow the rushes ho.
What is your one ho?
One is one and all alone and ever more shall be it so.
I'll sing you two ho, green grow the rushes ho.
What is your two ho?
Two, two the lily white boys, clothed all in green-o
One is one and all alone and ever more shall be it so.
I'll sing you three ho, green grow the rushes ho.
What is your three ho?
Three, three the rivals.
Two, two the lily white boys, clothed all in green-o
One is one and all alone and ever more shall be it so.
Four for the gospel makers
Five for the cymbals at your door
Six for the six proud walkers
Seven for the seven stars in the sky
Eight for the April rainers
Nine for the nine bright shiners
Ten for the ten commandments
Eleven for the eleven that went to heaven
Twelve for the twelve apostles
This is a Mike Salins favorite that is, coincidentally, always a crowd pleaser. It is more
than likely that not many Scouts will know this song due to its length. It is best when
the audience is older because they are more likely to either know it or pick up the words.
