M. I. 2 -Brian Power
C.F.L. Cinema played a high paced action movie that was more entertaining then many other critics have suggested. This movie, that we had the pleasure of watching was Mission Impossible 2, staring Tom Cruise (right). I found the movie to be very entertaining, contrary to most critics. Some critics said the movie lacked a plot. However, I found the plot line to be present but somewhat hard to follow. The government agent, Ethan Hunt, had to prevent a very deadly virus, Chimera. A person exposed to this virus could not recover after being infected for 20 hours.

The actors had the precise amount of chemistry on screen. During most of the movie the actors did not over act, or under act at any time. I find that tends to make a very good movie. I enjoyed the special effects. Some of the best special effects included the motorcycle chase, and the explosions from the many bombs. These effects were perfectly executed. Over all, I feel that this was a good movie. It had a well developed plot, talented actors, and incredible, special effects. On a scale of one to ten, I give it a seven.

Why Legends of the Five Rings was awesome! -Tom Fairbank
Now I don't know about you, but I personally enjoyed Tuesday night's program.; "Legends of the Five Rings". Maybe it was because my Unicorn clan from the Frozen Flaming Kybo Squirrels earned the most honor. However, I think several reasons contributed to the fun. These being city construction, the interaction with feudal Japanese characters, and the many choices allowed during the game. Unfortunately, a few problems did surface which were the insufficient time and non-conclusive ending. The cities we built showed how we started from nothing and progressed to be a grand metropolis. Unless of course you were in the Lion clan, which started with nothing and ended with less. Also as my Imperial Magistrate DJ said, "Just pretend your in a live-action video game." I did this while I gathered sticks and I felt like I was a vital resource collector for my team just like in the computer games I play. Our friends; the tax collector, Emperor, Herald, Legendary heroes, and even the peasants helped to keep the game interesting. While the peasants were sometimes annoying and did little to affect honor, they were always entertaining in the Imperial Court.

Photo right: Imperial Court: Two peasants, Ben Cannon (left) and Dave Stanish (right) informing the Emperor (Pat) about some wonderfully "fruffy" rice and some strange-tasting "nutty" rice.

My favorite part of the game was the numerous choices a clan was allowed during the program. Should we tell a story in court? Complete a quest? Build a Tea house or buy more samurai? Who should collect the wood or who should build the mill? Should we make an alliance? The many possibilities enhanced the game and allowed for a variety of tactics to be used.
However, I did not like the ending. While the Unicorn clan had a third more honor than any other clan. Then the greedy crane clan forced the game to a draw. The emperor did not state that if one clan utilized their special ability, the game would be a stalemate. But this what happened and I am unpleased about it. I think that instead of attempting the COPE course - which was a demoralizing failure - we should have started "The Legend of the Five Rings" immediately following lunch. I feel the game would have been more fun because we could have more battles, buildings, plans and interaction. Even though the ending was awful, I enjoyed playing "The Legend of the Five Rings." I hope you did as well.

The Sixth Sense -Marc Nenia
The first of Wednesday's double feature movie was The Sixth Sense staring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osmet (left). The Sixth Sense is about Doctor Malcolm Crow, a children's psychologist with a troubled past. Earlier in his career, Crow attempted, unsuccessfully, to treat a troubled child. Crow found a boy named Cole (Osmet) [right: on-screen in photo] who suffered from the same problems as his previous patient who he failed to rehabilitate. Feeling he can redeem himself by helping this boy, Crow decided to treat Cole. With time, Crow learned that Cole's affliction was his ability to see the dead.
Willis and Osmet's acting, coupled with great special effects, and an incredible twist at the end makes this one of the best suspense films of all time. I give it four thumbs up. Yes, I do have four thumbs; don't ask.

Teen Pregnancy -Joe Tancredi
At breakfast on Thursday morning, I delivered a speech to the troop. I chose to speak about teenage pregnancy because I wanted to talk about something that everyone could somewhat relate too. I think that everyone knows someone, or has at least has heard of a teenager who has been pregnant. This is a topic that is changing American society. This is also a subject that is especially a problem in America. Some European societies do not have such a high rate of teenage pregnancy, as does the American society. We could all learn a lesson or two from the Chinese who do not have this problem. They actually have laws that determine how many children a couple are allowed to bare. Granted, the Chinese have done this because of overpopulation. I would never suggest that we enforce such laws. However, I do believe that if we hope to keep this country strong both economically, and morally, then serious changes must take place.

Tips from the Commodore -Doc. John Schroeder
3. Check out with the camp leader or commanding officer when you leave camp or ship. Let him know where you are going and when to expect you back, then stick to you itinerary if possible. Maintain a log of these movements in writing if on a protracted trip. (Be sure to check in when you return!)
9b. Use nylon rope for safety line - it stretches, but because of this, it makes poor line for rescues. Both nylon and hemp line should be carried.
