My first ever parkrun! I have to admit I was a little nervous not knowing quite what to expect.
I arrived nice and early and got chatting to a woman at the start. I told her it was my first parkrun and she told me not to worry.
It was on my second of the two large laps when I got a stitch in my side and started to slow down. If I’d been out running by myself I would have stopped to catch my breath, but the woman who I’d been speaking to came up alongside me and encouraged me to keep going.
When I crossed the line in 25:30 it was my fastest every 5k and the first time I’d ever run that distance without slowing down or stopping. That’s the power of parkrun!
p.s. I cringe looking back at the tweets where I call it ParkRun. It wasn’t until a good while later I discovered it should be parkrun – AOWALC (All one word, all lower case)!
