Notes

I love it when I set out thinking it’s going to be a boring run and I come across lots of interesting things!

There’s an old tiled sign at the end of Bell Street for Prebbles The Chemists from Kensington. It turns out Prebbles is long closed (now a house) but the tiled front has been kept. I can’t wait to see it!

Greenfield Road is home to the building formally known as Stonycroft Methodist Church, the only one of the churches in the old Methodist Liverpool South circuit I had never been to. My friend Robin Fox was Minister there! It’s now apartments. No surprise there.

Shaftesbury Terrace has a pink-painted house at the Prescot Road end. Half way down there’s a stone plaque declaring ‘Healthy homes the first condition of social progress’ erected by the Artisans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company in 1871.

Goschen Street is a terrace where all the fronts of the houses have been plastered. Except for one. Seeing the original, exposed brickwork is like looking back in time. Is it strange to say it was beautiful?

As I was going down St Ives Grove I met a cat with seven lives. It ran away before I could take a photo.

God Bless the Sally Army!
