This is a run I’ve been planning for ages, ever since I spotted Christmas Street on the map and I knew I just had to run it on Christmas Day! It runs parallel with the Liverpool-Sefton boundary up in Kirkdale and is an unassuming street. I did, however, get a ‘Happy Christmas’ greeting from one of the residents!

Is this Macbeth Street which I see before me? There’s an Othello Street too.

I crossed the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. According to the way marker it’s 2 miles to Liverpool, and 125 and a quarter miles to Leeds. The first sod was cut in 1770 and the whole canal took 50 years to build. The canal carried mainly coal and at its peak would have been bustling with traffic. Some of the canalside warehouses are still visible.

This particular stretch of canal became an abandoned dead end and only received a new lease of life when the Liverpool canal link alongside the Pier Head to the Albert Dock was opened.

The other side of the canal is Derby Road and Regent Road. I found a few ‘stink pipes’ – metal ventilation pipes for the sewerage system below. BBR Roofing looks like it’s really cold – Bbrroofing.

So there I was, running down Brasenose Road, when I heard music in the distance. As I came closer to Syren Road I found The Secret Warehouse had speakers on the outside of the building and was playing Christmas music. The Secret Warehouse is a Community Interest Company (CIC) providing help to the local community and business advice to new start ups. They run free events based on positivity and raising self esteem, plus a training school to help people on low incomes gain qualifications and jobs. Check them out!

I found a Queen Victoria pillar box next to Bank Hall Station.

IKEA’s current ’sleep’ adverts – “Tomorrow starts tonight” – are really clever.

St Pauls Church is an old red-bricked building with a newer extension built onto the side.

I had to take a photo of St Richards Close to show Richard!
