Notes
I didn’t fancy an early morning run last Wednesday, and yesterday was too icy, so today was my first run in over a week. I decided to tick off some more of Norris Green. I reckon it’ll take at least 8 runs to complete the whole of Norris Green.
After ‘Norris Green: Part 1’ I said I was determined to find nice or interesting things to post about the area. So here goes!
West Derby Cemetery has a grand clock tower in the building by the entrance. This building from 1881 is Grade II listed, and was completed three years before the cemetery was officially opened in 1884.
Norris Green estate was built in the 1920s, so it was a surprise when I came across a house with an original garage. Like many of the ‘boot houses’ on the now demolished ‘Boot Estate’ area this garage is made from concrete pillars slotted together.
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux was a French Carmelite nun, known as Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, although she’s popularly referred to as The Little Flower of Jesus, or just The Little Flower. She died in 1897 aged 24 from tuberculosis. The church in her name stands on the corner of Utting Avenue East and Sedgemoor Road.
The shopping parade either side of Scargreen Avenue looks old and jaded.
Only one house on Mollington Avenue has kept the original mock-Tudor black beams on the outside of the house.
