Woodend Avenue is the road that runs from Hunts Cross to Speke Boulevard – not quite as exotic as my previous run through Chinatown. It’s intersected by the mainline railway, the boundary between Hunts Cross and Speke.
My run took me right up to the boundary between Liverpool and Knowsley. Part of the boundary is marked by a cycle path which is used as access to Halewood Doorstep Green, a park I never knew existed.
The Hunts Cross end of Woodend Avenue (along with Hillfoot Avenue) is a dual carriageway, with a residential road running alongside it on both sides. This makes things a lot easier for residents and visitors.
One of the side roads has a sign telling us it’s “Unsuitable for HGV’s”. I’m assuming they ran out of space!
Shaw Street is an industrial area, home to Mortons Dairies, Arriva bus depot, and AstraZeneca, makers of one of the Coronavirus vaccines.
The new housing estate off Alderman Road has five groups of houses built in a square with private parking in the middle. These areas are protected by gates.
