#everysinglestreet [27/03/21] Riversdale, Grassendale and the end of the Prom

I saw chequered daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells.

Liverpool Cricket Club (known locally as Aigburth Cricket Club) is a local landmark and is one of the grounds that Lancashire Cricket Club plays at a few times each year.

Half way along Marlcroft Drive there’s a community garden and pond – River Oaks Pond Terrace.

Riversdale Technical College used to be on Riversdale Road. It changed its name to South Mersey College before closing in 1991.

As I ran along Rookery Drive I wondered why it was called Rookery Drive. Could it have been the location of a rookery? Then all of a sudden I came across a large tree, and from the top I could hear a “caw, caw” bird call. I looked up, and there at the top were…. some crows. #disappointed

Found a George V letterbox.

I’d never been down Beechwood Road before. There’s a mixture of old houses and new. I found what I assume was the back gate for the college.

Like Riversdale Road Beechwood Road South leads down to Otterspool Promenade and the River Mersey. This is as far as the Prom goes. From here you can walk, ride or skip all the way to the Albert Dock and beyond.

The owner of the house at the end of Monksferry Walk has planted a mini orchard in the front garden.

I stopped at the entrance to Grassendale Park (I’m saving that for another day). I did, however, spot two plaques on the front of the gatehouse. One is in memory of George Harding (1893 – 1983) who was Park Keeper for over 50 years. The more recent one recognises Vere Egerton Cotton (Lord Mayor of Liverpool 1951-52), his wife Elfreda, their son Henry Egerton Cotton (Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside 1989 – 94) and his wife Susan.

Smaller than Grassendale Park and Cressington Park, Wood End Park only had two small streets, Western Drive and Easter Drive. It still had a quaint lodge at the entrance.

I came across an old barn building with the inscription “THIS BUILDING WAS BUILT UNAIDED BY: -> W BRYCKI” Brycki seems to be a Polish name.
