#everysinglestreet [26/05/21] Hill’s Place, Abbeymill Court and 102 High Street

I walked down to the Tesco Metro at lunchtime to pick up some scones, and while I was there I decided to run the two addresses I was missing from Wavertree. CityStrides had already marked them as completed due to the GPS traces of previous runs getting close enough to the nodes, so I didn’t officially get any extra streets today. But at least I completed them properly.

Hill’s Place is a close hidden just off the High Street, accessible from a gap in the buildings fronting the main road. For many years it didn’t even have a road sign, but the Council seems to have rectified that. I’d run or driven past it hundreds of times and never noticed it, so today was the first time I entered and ran to the end.

After Hill’s Place I crossed the road and went through the tunnel through the building opposite that takes you into Abbeymill Court. It was strange looking back through the entrance in the new-ish building back out onto the High Street to see the old buildings opposite.

No 102 High Street has a plaque on the outside from The Wavertree Society proudly declaring this property as “Liverpool’s only surviving example of a Georgian bow-windowed shopfront.” As such it’s a Grade II listed building. In 1846 it was occupied by John Gore, a sadler. It’s also been home for a cycle manufacturer, a boot dealer, an antique store, and a cobler. It’s currently lovingly cared for by Raymond Jones, wood turner. You can read all about this labour of love in last year’s Liverpool Echo article.

Great North Run

I’m running the Great North Run for the first time on Sunday 12th September, raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. My mum has Alzheimers so this charity is close to my heart. If you can spare a couple of quid to help me reach my target I would be extremely grateful.
