- parkrunday 24th July 2021
- parkrun #115 – Princes (#37)
- Time: 27:14
It’s been a long time coming – 16 months to be precise, during which time two return dates (October 2020 and June 2021) came and went.
But parkrun’s back, and I must admit to feeling rather emotional about it as we were waiting to start.
Hats off to Co-EDs Guy and Les on doing an awesome job for the first parkrun back, and the first one under parkrun’s Covid-19 framework. A lot more volunteers were needed for scanning and marshalling, and it was good that they were able to fill the roster.
With this being the first parkrun back, and with neighbouring Croxteth Hall parkrun not taking place today, I was concerned that their would be too many people. In the end the numbers were lower than normal, possibly due to the start of the summer holidays and some people still not being comfortable being in crowds.
parkrun in the UK (and the rest of the world?) is now entirely app based – no more handheld stopwatches and barcode scanners that need to be physically plugged into a laptop to download the results. Scanning and timing are now done on the parkrun virtual volunteer app and are automatically uploaded to the results system when finished. So much easier!
Well done to Liverpool LibDem councillor Kris Brown on running his first ever parkrun. And contratulations to Ian Pinnington who had to wait 16 months to run his 250th parkrun this morning!
Now I just need to decide where to go next week!
