- parkrun #202 – Southport
- Number of visits: 2
- Time: 25:52
I can’t believe I actually made it back to Southport! I’d only run here once before (back in December 2018) and had been planning to return for a while but each time other stuff got in the way (cancellations, etc).
I met up with Calum and Lynsey who were staying in Southport for the weekend, and Stuart Brandwood (fellow With Me Now listener). I was also able to say hi to Colin and Barbara Maddocks. Colin runs the most excellent Grateful Fred’s Roots and Acoustic Nights at The Atkinson in Southport and is a talented musician in his own right. They are both regulars at Southport parkrun and I love seeing his weekly selfie with his posse!
It’s Easter Saturday so of course the Easter Bunny was there. In fact there were two, although one of them looked more like a rabbit than the other!
The more rabbit-like rabbit (Michelle) gave the first timers’ briefing and managed to do it without taking her rabbit head off!
The course is two and a half times round Hesketh Park. The first two laps take you round the twisty-turny path round the lake. I remember this frustrated me on my first visit because it was hard to overtake people. This time I wasn’t overtaking anyone!
There are lots of interesting features in the park, including archways, statues, sculptures, and an observatory. And there’s a nice cafe next to the children’s play area where parkrunners can go for food, drink and parkfaff.
Next week is Philips Park for Jo’s Cowell and our Regionnaire. Should be fun!
