I\u2019m slowly working my way through the south end of Walton and the east side of Kirkdale. I\u2019m sure if I got hold of a map of ward boundaries I\u2019d be able to tell where one district ends and another begins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I reckon I could do a whole photo album of \u2018Buildings that used to be pubs but aren\u2019t pubs any more.\u2019 Along the terraced streets of Walton and Kirkdale there seems to have been a pub on every corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wonder how many of the residents of Tolpuddle Way and Poplar Way know their houses are built on the site of Stanley Saw Mills and Timber Yard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found a rare post box without a royal cypher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone still has Christmas lights on the outside of their house. I wonder if they\u2019re lit up at night! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirkdale Community Centre is a grand Victorian building in a north European late gothic style. It was originally build as the Gordon Working Lads Institute and is thought to be Britain\u2019s oldest surviving purpose-built boys\u2019 club. Above the doorway there\u2019s engraved the message \u201cErected by Mr William Cliff merchant to the memory of his (______) son, William Frater Cliff\u201d. It was build in 1886 and has the head of Queen Victoria, plus a Liver Bird and a crest with three lions. Although it was build in memory of Cliff\u2019s 11 year old son, it was named after Major General Charles Gordon who was killed in battle at Khartoum in 1886.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Stanley Road at the corner of Fountains Road there\u2019s a long building with a tower at the end. I\u2019d though at first glance that it had been build where a church used to stand, hence the tower. However, looking at the old maps online it appears to have been the site of a small hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ran down a group of flower-named streets – crocus, snowdrop, pansy, daisy, primrose, briar, woodbine, harebell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I ran doon Doon Close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
