parkrun #59 – Bolton parkrun
Time: 22:53
Tourism event #26
My original plan was to join The Wigan Runner at Haigh Woodland but I found out on Friday he wasn’t going to be there so I decided to go to Chester instead (it’s my current NENDY – Nearest Event Not Done Yet). However, when I came to activate my new FastTag for the Mersey Tunnel I was told it could take up to 24 hours.
So I looked at the other options for new courses and chose Bolton instead. It’s easy to get to along the M62 and a short jump up the M60.
I’d been told about the hill – nicknamed Cruella de Hill – during the first timers’ briefing but it didn’t quite prepare me for it. I’m so not used to running up hills and it was energy sapping. But I did it (twice!) and actually quite enjoyed the challenge.
The Bolton parkrun website said there is tea and coffee available afterwards but I couldn’t see it, so after a brief chat with a couple of people I headed back for a cuppa at home instead.
Bolton isn’t the hilliest or hardest parkrun by a long shot and I’m looking forward to trying some of the more challenging courses.
