I was originally going to go to Morecambe Promenade parkrun this morning to do my first flat out-and-back to see if I can get a sub-20 time but my knee was still a little sore and I didn’t want to push it, so I decided to visit Hyndburn instead.
Hyndburn is in Clayton le Moors, not far from Clitheroe (where I was a couple of weeks back). It’s a small event (averaging around 150) and is run by a fantastic team of volunteers.
The course is on paths and trails around two different areas of woodland surrounding the athletics club and sports fields. There’s an incline in the first part of the course, but a nice downhill bit cancels it out.
There was an unfortunate incident at the start of the race with a runner whose dog wouldn’t stop barking. The owner made no attempt to quieten the dog, and when I asked him if it were possible he rudely told me to go closer to the RD if I wanted to hear what was being said. I was informed at the end that the team are aware of this issue and will be addressing it with the runner directly.
Dianne the Run Director kindly gave my 5k-a-day a shout out at the start, and lots of people came up to chat with me about it at the end. One man gave me a tenner in my hand and didn’t want me to take his name. I also got three more donations on my JustGiving page – so thanks to:-
- Anonymous guy in red Rab t-shirt
- Katy & Lou on behalf of Hyndburn parkrun
- Margaret Bentley
- Marie Wilson
At the end there was free tea, coffee, water, juice, cake, biscuits and fruit – all donated by the volunteers. That’s amazing!
I don’t know what was up with the GPS route recording on Strava. It shows 5.8km! I think it’s probably down to the tree cover.
