parkrun #103 – 24:53 Chadderton Hall (NYD Double 2020 #1)

  • parkrunday 1st January 2020 (NYD Double #1)
  • parkrun #103 – Cadderton Hall (#1)
  • Different event #58
  • Time: 24:53

I ummed and ahhed for a long time over which parkrun New Year’s Day Double to do.

Plan A was to do Barrow and Millom, but Millom decided not to do one on New Year’s Day because they couldn’t get enough volunteers (hence my visit last parkrunday).

Plan B was to do Barrow and Ford. Jo had told me she was volunteering at Ford so I thought it might be fun to join her.

Then I looked at the parkun NYD Double map and spotted Newborough Forest and Nant y Pandy on Anglesey. These were closer than the Lake District and I thought it looked fun. That was Plan C.

Then I heard that Andy and Laura from the Running Challenges browser extension were going to be at Tawd Valley along with Calum and Lyndsay so I decided to join them there instead. That was Plan D and the one I stuck with!

Tawd Valley was 10.30am so I looked for one I could do at 8.30am or 9.00am, preferably a new event. I spotted Chadderton Hall near Bolton and worked out I’d have enough time to run it and get to Tawd Valley 15 minutes before the start.

Chadderton Hall was a nice enough course, although as a four lapper it’s not one I’d rush back to. Each lap takes you down a hill, along the river, up a hill, round the rose garden, then back to the start/finish. I met some tourists from Scotland, and Polly, one of my running buddies from work, was there too.

The start was spot on 9.00am as the team knew some people would need to get off at the end to head out to other parkruns for the double.

It was strange being at a parkrun and not asking the Run Director to announce I was running 5k-a-day!
