Notes
I took a diversion to look for the old mill, but all I found were Mill Cottages. I could see something circular on the satelite image but the wall was too high for me to see over.
Penny Lane is probably one of Liverpool’s most famous roads. I was recently in the news when the road signs got vandelised because some people thought it was named after James Penny who was involved in the slave trade. After a lot of research it was concluded that there’s no conclusive proof of a link between the two, and the International Slavery Museum agreed to remove the street sign from the display of streets linked to slavery.
There are two barbers on Penny Lane, and one wig shop.
I saw a squirrel.
I keep being surprised by houses hidden away down alleys. Stanton Road has seven houses and is a dead end. However, if you go to the end and turn right down the alley you’ll come across No 8 Stanton Road hidden behind the other houses in a little pocket. 3A to 3E Gorseband Road are also hidden away down an alley behind an alleygate.
Sign in a window – IN THIS HOUSE WE HATE THE TORIES. In the same road there was a house with two maple trees outside.
Beckenham Avenue (L18) has its own motto – “be excellent to each other”
