Notes

There are some runs when I know I’m not going to get that many roads completed. The roads comprising the triangle of Woolton Road, Hillfoot Road and Springwood Avenue are long and don’t have many other roads running off them. But they still have to be run.

With duel carriageways there are ‘nodes’ down both of the carriageways so I ran down the middle of the central reservation to try to hit the nodes on both sides with my GPS trace. Unfortunately with the cloud and tree cover the GPS wasn’t accurate enough so I’m going to have to mark some roads as manually completed. I also think I’ll stick to the pavement on one side or another as the grass and ground underfoot in the middle is very uneven underfoot. At one point Hillfoot Road has three carriageways!

Woolton Road has cottages in the middle of the duel carriageway in two locations.

There’s a new housing estate being built. It’s not on any maps yet and there are no signs showing what the roads are called.

Towards the Woolton end is Allerton Towers where we held many a Scouting event over the years.

Hillfoot Road has wooden posts along each edge of the central reservation to stop drivers using the playing fields from parking there.

There’s a sign on Southmead Road for Cheshire Lines Sports and Social Club, showing its links to the adjacent railway line.

I passed Camp Hill where we’d come sledding as kids when it was snowing. Also passed Clarke Gardens and honestly can’t remember the last time I visited. Next to it is Allerton Hall Farm. I can’t remember what it used to be called. Allerton Towers?

Allerton Cemetery is huge – 150 acres. Famous occupants include Cilla Black, Julia Lennon (John’s mother), and Sir Ken Dodd. As well as traditional graves, there’s also a natural woodland burial area where biodegradable coffins must be used and no traditional headstones are allowed. It also hosts Springwood Crematorium.
