Notes

With Liverpool playing Manchester United at home later this afternoon I thought it only right to finish the roads round Anfield Stadium. If Liverpool win then they’ll go back to the top of the table. This will be Jürgen Klopp’s 200th game in charge and of those matches he’s only lost four at home. Come on you reds!

Opposite the stadium on Walton Breck Road there used to be streets of terraced houses. Most of these have been knocked down and replaced by nice modern homes. You can still see the ends of some of these streets. Vienna Street still has a solitary alley gate standing.

I went to Anfield Stadium determined to run round Paisley Square, only to find it cordoned off with fencing, no doubt to stop unwanted crowds gathering for this afternoon’s match. Paisley Square will have to wait until after the restrictions are lifted.

The front of the Glenbuck Hotel is guarded by dragons!

Lambrigg Row is a pedestrian street that wasn’t on OpenStreetMaps, so I’ve added it. It’s not on Google Maps either, but that’s not my problem!

The Sandon pub has ornate tiles round the front door, and others dotted across the sides.

I took a photo looking down St Domingo Vale with the four storey terraced houses on one side and the modern houses on the other. The old facing the new.

Fun fact! The original name of Everton Football Club when it was founded in 1878 was St Domingo FC. It was named after St Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel on the corner of Breckfield Road North and St Domingo Vale (no longer there). They changed their name a year later to Everton FC. They played their matches on land at Anfield, before moving to Goodison Park during which time Liverpool FC was formed.

There’s a poem on the board outside Crete Gospel Hall, based on Matthew 16, v26.

To loose your wealth is much
To loose your health is more.
To loose your soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

Millvina House is a large care home. I had to look that up because it looks more like a medical centre.

Christ Church is immediately opposite the stadium. I bet parking for parishioners is a nightmare.
