If I’m going to be doing any more runs before work I think I’ll have to set out earlier and head back home earlier. I hadn’t realised how bad the traffic would be heading into town now that lockdown is over.
Holt Lane is an industrial estate. On the grassed area near the end there’s a tiny, brick building called the Butty Bar which I’m guessing used to provide breakfasts and lunches to people working at the businesses along the road. Unfortunately there seems to have been a fire and it’s looking a little worse for wear.
I took a photo of the sign for Tuffins Corner. It sounds like it should be a location in the countryside – maybe somewhere in the Cotswolds – with a wood, a babbling brook, and a bridge.
Lakeside School is an independent special school providing education to pupils between 5 and 13 years old with speech, language and communication difficulties, attention deficit disorder, and social and emotional difficulties.
Today I ran along Naylors Road and Wheathill Road all the way to the boundary between Liverpool and Knowsley, just before it passed under the M62 motorway. I passed fields and horses.
There’s a building on Naylorsfield Road that used to be New Heights High School before it moved to the new campus in Fazakerley. During my time working for the National Teaching and Advisory Service this was Hope School, a special school for pupils with social and emotional difficulties, much like Lakeside. One of the young people I was supporting through the NT&AS was a pupil at Hope School and I had a lot of contact with them. When I left they presented me with a school polo shirt! The headteacher – Rohit Naik – won the 2020 Pearson National Teaching Award for Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School. The school moved to a purpose built building alongside the new Gateacre School.
I think I’ve found the largest street sign. It says “Southbrook Road L27 leading to Silverbrook Road, Dunkerron Close, Barnstream Close, Callard Close, Maytree Close, Mullread Close & Waterford Road” I’m not sure why they need a sign with all of those roads on it.
St. Cyril’s Court and St. Cyril’s Close are built where the Catholic church used to be. In the close there’s a George VI postbox which dates it between 1937 and 1952.
