#everysinglestreet [17/04/21] Walton Village: Part 2

I had planned to finish Walton Village today but the timings didn’t quite work out.

There’s a building on the corner of Brewster Street and Bedford Road (just across the boundary into Sefton) that looks like it used to be a combined police station and fire station. It’s now a funeral directors.

I found a couple of odd road name signs from the early days of the postcode system. Street signs in Liverpool all have the postal district next to the name of the road. Walton is L4, Wavertree L15. The signs for Morval Crescent and Brimstage Road are missing the ‘L’ and only have the number.

Not quite as grand as The Glebe on County Road, the Stuart Hotel still strikes a pose with its limestone exterior and solid doors.

This area is part of the Liverpool Alleyway Programme, designed to re-pave and smarten up the 4 foot wide alleys behind the houses. One of the challenges of these narrow alleys is dragging the regular wheelie bins along them. As part of the project the Council has introduced communal roadside bins, similar to the ones I’ve seen in Barcelona.

As you’re travelling northwards along Queens Drive the Rice Lane Flyover takes you over the roundabout junction below and the road becomes Breeze Hill before leaving Liverpool and entering Sefton.

Miss Perfect hair and beauty salon was very busy…!
