#everysinglestreet [19/05/21] The last of the roads off Mather Avenue

It was another beautiful, clear, sunny morning as I finished the last of the roads off Mather Avenue.

The collection of sandstone buildings at the end of Brockleband Lane where it meets Mather Avenue look somewhat out of place amongst the surrounding inter-war houses. The 1914 maps shows this to be Springwood Farm.

The modern houses on Ramsey Close also seem out of place. I thought they had to have been built on a plot of land previously used for something else, and after checking on the 1970 map you can see this used to be allotment gardens. A row of three houses on Ramsey Road had to be demolished to make way for the access road.

The tower of All Souls Church is imposing on the skyline to the east.

I found an old fire hydrant marker with “LCWW HYDRANT FT” on it. That would have been Liverpool City Water Works. I don’t know why the number of feet is missing.

Holly Farm Road runs alongside the site for Liverpool South Parkway railway station. This is a new station that connects passengers to both the mainline from Lime Street out to Widnes, and the Merseyrail line from Liverpool Central. It replaced Garston Station.

Not surprisingly Holly Farm Road is named after the farm that used to stand at this location. When the farm was demolished it was replaced by a football stadium called Holly Park, home of South Liverpool FC.

Found another pillar box with a Queen Victoria Royal royal cypher.

I completed the last of the three roads in Liverpool called Long Lane.

Great North Run

I’m running the Great North Run for the first time on Sunday 12th September, raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. My mum has Alzheimers so this charity is close to my heart. If you can spare a couple of quid to help me reach my target I would be extremely grateful.
