- parkrunday 28th August 2021
- parkrun #120 – Lancaster
- Different event #67
- Time: 30:37
What a glorious morning for a parkrun! Bright sunshine, clear blue skies and a gentle, cool breeze made up for the downpour we had to put up with last week at Princes. I made it to Lancaster after last week’s aborted attempt, and was rewarded with a hilly parkrun through Williamson Park and adjoining Fenham Carr woodland.
The normal route starts and finishes behind The Ashton Memorial in the centre of the park. This is the building you can see on the hill as you’re driving past Lancaster on the M6. However, parkrun’s Covid-19 framework requires more space at the start and finish so the current route starts and finishes at the bottom of the Memorial steps. Even though the weather has been dry recently there was still a muddy stretch through Fenham Carr and I was grateful to have remembered my trail shoes.
I bumped into a couple of North West parkrun tourists – Paul Hawgood and Jan Lee – who had stopped off at Lancaster on their way to the Lake District for the week. They are excited to be heading down to Bushy Park in London next weekend to run at the place where parkrun started.
