#everysinglestreet [08/09/22] Meadow Lane, West Derby

This was my first early morning run for a long time. I was testing out my sore knee ahead of the Great North Run on Sunday and so far (toes crossed) things look OK. I’m still waiting for go ahead from my physio. Once I have that I’ll walk Jesmond Dene parkrun on Saturday and make a decision about the GNR later in the afternoon.

This morning the temperature was 16 degrees when I started and 20 degrees by the time I’d returned to the car. It was a bright, sunny morning that seemed more like summer than early September.

Fallbrook Drive and Grove Park Avenue are built on the former City of Liverpool Community College site. There is a lovely field either side of the entrance to Fallbrook. If this estate had been built today there’s no doubt the whole of this would have been filled with houses. At the end of one close there were two open containers with water for what? Dogs? Birds? Foxes?

I don’t know how the people who name new streets get their ideas from but The Boulevard isn’t a boulevard.

The entrance to Old Lodge Close was built to make it look like you’re entering a private estate, with metal gates attached to the gate posts either side of the road. However, on closer inspection it becomes obvious that they’re just for show because they’re actually fixed into the pavement.

I’m always intrigued by roads that stop suddenly like the end of Lingmell Road. It’s obvious that the kerb used to continue further before the fence was built.

The Lingmell Inn on the corner of Lingmell Road and Muirhead Avenue East faces the Norris Green estate. This is one of the pubs that the residents of Norris Green would have had to have walked to if they wanted a drink because there weren’t any pubs in Norris Green.

Oh, and I’ve now run 75% of the City of Liverpool!

Great North Run

I’m running the Great North Run for the first time on Sunday 12th September, raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. My mum has Alzheimers so this charity is close to my heart. If you can spare a couple of quid to help me reach my target I would be extremely grateful.
