Jo and I had originally planned to do Watergrove parkrun, but on Friday when we looked at the weather for Saturday at 9am we decided to change our plans. We didn’t think it would be much fun running round the reservoir in the wind and rain.

So instead we headed to Congleton. I’d run here once before but Jo hadn’t done it and needed it to complete her Cheshire Cheese (all the parkruns in Cheshire). It just so happened that Robin had already said he was planning to run here this morning so the three of us were able to meet up for the second week running!

When we set off from Liverpool it was pouring down, and it was still raining when we parked up at Astbury Mere. However, the parkrun Weather Fairies were kind to us and the rain cleared up during the first timers’ briefing! I was happy to drop my running jacket back in the car before the start.

Congleton is a nice, flat, fast course – three laps round Astbury Mere. Having had the go-ahead from the knee specialist to run again, I picked up the pace and got my fastest parkrun time of the year. I really felt my lack of fitness though as I was flagging on the final lap, and just about managed to keep away the cramp in my legs after I’d finished.
