5k-a-day monthly update updates

5k-a-day monthly update – May

Distance – 248.1k

May had some incredible highs but finished on a low

  • Croxteth Hall parkrun – 20:49 (new parkrun PB)
  • Liverpool Spring 10k – 44:40 (new 10k PB)
  • Great Manchester Run – 43:50 (new 10k PB)
  • Liverpool Rock n Roll Marathon – 3:55:54

At the beginning of the year I set myself a number of targets – to run 5k in under 21 minutes, 10k in under 45 minutes, and a marathon in under 4 hours. I’m delighted to have smashed all three targets, two of them in the same weekend!

The down side is that I picked up two injuries running the marathon – my ankle and groin. I ran for the five days after the marathon – Monday to Friday – but I was in more pain by the end of the week than I was at the start. I knew if I kept running that not only would the injuries not heal but they would probably get worse so I took the decision on the last day of the month to stop running to allow my body to heal and rest.

So for the next seven days I decided I was going to walk 5k-a-day instead of running.

My fundraising total is up to 57%, still ahead of schedule and ticking along nicely.
